Some time ago, I decided to visit one of the most famous waterfalls in East Java: Tumpak Sewu. He said, this waterfall has a panorama that is second to none. And I wonder, is it really beautiful according to the hype that I have been hearing?
The trip starts from Lumajang, because according to the info, access to the bottom of the waterfall is most comfortable from the entrance via Lumajang. The location is not far from the main road that connects Lumajang and Malang. So, if you take a private vehicle, just look for a small alley on the left side of the road (if from Lumajang) with a large inscription "Tumpak Sewu Waterfall." From the direction of Malang, this alley is on the right side of the road after the Malang-Lumajang border gate. It's very simple, right?
I myself had considered taking a bus from Malang-Lumajang, because many say it is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get here. But in the end I chose to drive alone to be more flexible.
Arriving at the location, the sound of the waterfall rumbling was already heard from the parking lot. It makes me really curious! But, the struggle has just begun. To get down to the bottom of the waterfall, the path is quite challenging. There are bamboo stairs, steep paths, and sometimes we have to "climb" a bit. Even though I was tired, along the way I was accompanied by a very beautiful view of the green valley. It really makes you forget as much as you are tired!
As soon as I got to the bottom, I was immediately astonished. This waterfall is indeed as its name implies: Tumpak Sewu aka "a thousand waterfalls." The water stream falls from a high circular cliff, forming an unusually majestic panorama. If you are a photography lover, this is really heaven. Especially with the thin fog that sometimes appears and makes the atmosphere even more dramatic.
Not only that, around the Tumpak Sewu area there are also Grojokan Sewu and Goa Tetes that can be visited. If you have more time, take the time to stop by these two places as well, because the scenery is no less interesting. Drops Cave, for example, has natural walls decorated with water droplets, making the atmosphere feel magical.
Special Ticket Policy for Foreign Tourists
Oh yes, there is important information for those of you who may be foreign tourists. Now, the management has implemented a special continuous ticket system for foreign tourists. So, by paying IDR 100,000, you can access three locations at once: Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Grojokan Sewu, and Goa Tetes. Very practical, right? This policy is made to make the tourist experience more comfortable, and you don't have to bother paying for tickets at each location.
So, for those of you who want to have a vacation with a different atmosphere and want to see one of the most epic waterfalls in Indonesia, Tumpak Sewu must be on the bucket list. Not only the scenery is amazing, but also the exciting experience that makes your travel story unforgettable!
See you in another exciting travel stories...
