Affordable Visa Options for Nigerian Travelers in Asia
For many Nigerians, the cost of international travel can be quite daunting, especially when considering visa fees. These additional expenses often make the dream of visiting foreign countries seem unattainable. However, several Asian countries offer more affordable visa options, allowing travelers to explore new destinations without a heavy financial burden.
Here are six Asian countries where visa fees remain under ₦100,000, making them accessible for Nigerian travelers:
1. Singapore
Applying for a visa to Singapore involves a non-refundable processing fee of $30 (approximately ₦45,000). This fee must be paid online using a Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card. Applicants need to provide a valid Nigerian passport with at least six months of validity and two blank pages, along with a completed and signed visa application form and recent passport-sized photographs that meet Singapore’s requirements. Additional documents such as a detailed travel itinerary, flight reservations, accommodation bookings, and proof of sufficient financial means are also necessary. The processing time usually takes three working days, excluding the day of submission.
2. Japan
As of April 2024, the visa fee for Japan is set at ₦12,500. Applications must be submitted in person at the Embassy of Japan in Abuja and require an appointment. Appointments should be booked at least 15 working days before departure, with applications submitted no later than 10 working days prior. Required documents include a valid passport, completed visa application form, recent passport-sized photograph, flight booking, hotel reservation, and proof of financial capability such as a bank statement. Parents or guardians may schedule appointments for minors, but all applications must be submitted in person by the applicant.
3. Sri Lanka
Nigerian passport holders must obtain a regular visa before traveling to Sri Lanka. The process requires a passport photograph, a valid international passport with at least six months’ validity beyond the travel period, proof of financial means like a bank statement, and a detailed travel itinerary. A double entry tourist visa valid for 30 days costs $50 (around ₦75,000), and all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
4. Vietnam
To travel to Vietnam, Nigerian passport holders must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months from the intended arrival date and has at least two blank pages. The visa fee for single entry and exit is $25 (approximately ₦37,500), which applies to children under 14 years regardless of the visa's validity. Travelers are advised to carefully review all required documents before submitting their application.
5. Thailand
Nigerian travelers planning to visit Thailand can apply for a single-entry tourist e-visa, costing ₦65,000. Key documents needed include a passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages, a completed visa application form, a recent passport-sized photograph, proof of sufficient funds, a return travel ticket, and evidence of accommodation in Thailand. Additionally, applicants must submit an original police clearance certificate and a copy of a drug clearance certificate. A travel booking confirmation detailing return flight information is also required. It is recommended to apply 4–6 weeks before the intended travel date, though applications should not be submitted more than three months in advance. All visa fees are non-refundable.
6. South Korea
The South Korean single-entry visa costs ₦60,000 for stays of up to 90 days and ₦90,000 for longer visits. Applicants must provide a passport valid for at least six months, a completed visa application form, and a recent passport-sized photograph. Proof of financial capability, including a personal bank statement, credit card statements, or vehicle registration documents, is required. Additionally, a confirmed flight booking, hotel reservation, and a photocopy of a National ID card, driver’s licence, or voter’s card issued within the last five years must be presented. The processing period typically takes between 10 to 15 business days, with the fee being non-refundable regardless of the application outcome.
